Similarities and Differences in God's Word in the Qur'an and the Bible

Edition: The Creation of Heaven and Earth and Their Contents

By: EE Tandri

 Introduction

The Qur'an and the Bible are holy books that are used as instructions for humans to believe in a religion. The Word of God written in the Qur’an and the Bible, in detail gives instructions to humans about God and God's work in the creation of the universe. In general, the two books, both the Qur'an and the Bible, contain information about God's Word as a guide to knowing God by spiritual faith and not knowing God with the logic of the human mind.

The Qur’an and the Bible contain deductive narratives about God and God's rules that guide people to worship God in truth. So that it does not cause multiple perceptions in understanding the essence of absolute truth. In fact, the Qur’an and the Bible present a substantial difference in information. In more detail, it can be seen that all the information contained in the two books differs 180 degrees in describing specific matters, for example about the nature of God, God's work including the process of creation, history or prophetic history and the Laws or Rules (commands and prohibitions) that be God's will. If the general information is different, of course it can be understood. Because it relates to socio-cultural, geographic and time God's Word was delivered in his day and the traditions that prevailed in his day.

Humans as God's creations who are given the advantage of reason and thoughts from other living creatures, will naturally ask why the Word of God written in the Qur’an and the Bible provides information that contradicts one another.

Of course, humans have the same concept of thinking that: "some architects write books on guidelines for the construction of house buildings, then the contents of the messages conveyed have similarities in terms of planning, implementation process, materials / materials used, the length of time needed and so on, although different narrative descriptions. Likewise, the Word of God written in the Qur'an and the Bible is of course substantially the same, although the description and morphology of the writing are different.

In this paper, information is presented that can be used as a joint study to see facts about God's word written in the Qur’an and the Bible. The purpose of this writing is not to clash the contents of the two books to justify one of them. But as a shared information material to be able to interpret the existence of the two contents of the book and respect the beliefs of its adherents in carrying out their religion without having to view these differences as part of the hostility of religious communities. The result of the elaboration of the differences and similarities presented, is not a real truth, but is the result of the author's perception of the contextualized content of the text. Therefore, every reader can provide constructive input for the common interest in realizing religious tolerance.

In particular, the study of the differences and similarities in the contents of God's word in the two books aims to show that human truth is limited by legal understandings codified in their time. While absolute truth belongs only to God. It must be realized that the Word of God written in the book is not a blue print that came down from God, but the result of God's interaction with the Prophets which was then written either by the prophet himself or by his fellow Prophets who lived in contemporaries. Currently presented edition of the creation of the heavens and the Earth and its contents. The information presented is only sourced from the Qur’an and the Bible, not correlated with prophetic history and biography.

Summary of Quran Facts Information

Based on the explanation of God's Word written in several verses of the Qur’an above, it is known that:

1. Heaven and Earth were created in 6 ages.

2. In another verse it is explained that the heavens and the earth were created for 8 periods (Surah Fusilat 41: Verse 9-14) with the following description:

-         The sky was created for 2 times

-         Earth was created in 2 ages

-         Mountains and levels of food were created during 4 times

3. Initially Heaven and Earth were united, then separated, by:

a. The heavens are exalted seven stories (7 heavens)

b. Earth spread out

4. After being separated Heaven and Earth were summoned, then both of them came happily

5. The mountains anchor the Earth firmly

6. The first man (Adam) and his wife Eve were created in Heaven

7. The basic ingredients of Adam's creation:

-                  Land

-                  Clay

-                  Dry soil like pottery

-                  Dry soil and black mud

-                  Essence of soil that is used as semen

-                  Water

-                  A clot of blood

8. The Process of Creation of the first Man (Adam)

-      From "ground essence" to "semen"

-      from "semen" to "something that sticks"

-      from "something attached" to "flesh"

-      from "flesh" to "bone"

-      then the bone is wrapped in meat.

-      After humans became then God made other forms of creatures.

9. In the Qur'an verse it is explained that humans were created from clay, clay, dry soil such as pottery, the essence of soil made into semen, water and a clot of blood. However, it does not explain that the soil used is from Earth.

10. The explanation that the land used came from Earth, narrated by the Prophet Muhammad and some of his companions, as follows:

a. After the Angel Gabriel, the Angel Michael, the Angel Israfil failed to take the land from the earth, then God ordered the Angel Izrail to carry out the task and urged the earth not to refuse even though the earth swore to refuse to give the land. The angel Azrael carries out his duties at the command and name of God.

b. So, Azrael came down to earth and said his arrival was at the command of God and gave a mandate to the earth not to argue that it was possible for the earth to disobey God. According to Ibn Abbas, the earth and heaven were used as materials to create Adam. The lands are:

• Land of Baitulmuqaddis (Palestine) -head for a place of glory to put brains and ways of doing things.

• Land of Tursina Hills (Egypt) - ears for hearing and receiving advice.

• The land of Iraq - forehead for prostration to God.

• Land of Aden (Yemen) - advance to a place of decoration and beauty.

• Al-Kautsar lake land - an eye for places of interest.

• Al-Kautsar land - teeth for sweets.

• Land of the Kaabah (Makkah) - the right hand for a place to earn a living and work together.

• Land of Paris (France) - left hand for members to carry out istinjak.

• Land of Khurasan (Iran) - stomach for hunger.

• Land of Babylon (Iraq) - genitals for the sex organs and a place of lust and temptation of the devil.

• Land of Tursina (Egypt) - bones for human support.

• Indian land - legs for members to stand and continue.

• Paradise Land (Heaven) - the heart for a place of belief, faith, and will.

• Tanah Taif (Saudi Arabia) - the tongue for a place to say the shahadah, gratitude and prayer.

c. Narrated us Abu Musa al-Ash'ari said that the Messenger of God said, "Verily God created the prophet Adam from a handful of earth from all parts of the earth. Then the descendants of the Prophet Adam came from these parts of the earth, among them some were red, black and among them there were also those who were airy, sad, not good and good. (Abu Daud Sulaiman as-Sijistani, Sunan Abi Daud, jus 4 p. 222)

d. In another narration, Ibn Abbas Ra. also tells about the origin of the body (body) of the prophet Adam that God created:

• the head of the Prophet Adam from the land of Baitul Maqdis,

• his face from the land of heaven,

• his two ears from the ground on the hill of Tursina,

• his forehead from the land of Iraq,

• his teeth from the land of the Kautsar lake,

• right hand and fingers from the land of the Kaaba,

• his left hand and fingers from Persia,

• both his legs and calves are from the land of the Indies,

• his bones from the land of the mountains,

• his nakedness comes from the land of Babylon,

• his back from the land of Iraq,

• his stomach from the land of Khurasan (now the area around Iran),

• his heart from the land of Paradise Paradise,

• his tongue from the land of Taif,

• both of his eyes from the land of Haud lake.

The information reference in point 10 is not from the Qur’an, so it does not become valid data about God's Word. The presentation of this information only provides spiritual insight, but is not the essence of the truth of God's Word regarding spiritual information. Because at the time of the creation of Heaven and Earth, nations and countries did not yet exist. Countries or Nations Humanity only existed when God scattered humans because of the pride and arrogance of humans who wanted to build a tower known as the tower of Babel after the flood around 3000 BC which was restored in 681-655 by Ezarhaddon and repaired again by King Nebuchadnezzar II 605-562 BC.

So it is clear that the writing of the origin of the land is taken from several countries for the creation of Adam when the creation of this world where the new earth was formed are only fictional narratives whose validity cannot be questioned. However, this information is not a mistake that should be debated between religions. Because this is an effort to enrich spiritual insight by religious figures, especially followers of the Islamic religion.

11. Demons were created from fire

12. Humans live in heaven

13. Devils live in Heaven

14. Snakes live in Heaven

15. Growing vegetation after it rains from the sky

16. Animals are created from water

17. Specific plants that are signs of God's power are green plants that produce seeds, dates, grapes, olives and pomegranates.

18. The specific animal that is a sign of God's power is the camel

19. Man fell into sin by eating the fruit of the tree of immortality (Khuldi) because of the devil's whispers

20. The devil became a cursed creature because he did not bow down to Adam. Rejecting God's command to prostrate to Adam.

21. God involved Angels and demons, especially when creating Humans. This can be seen when:

a. After God blew the Spirit on Adam, then God ordered the Angels and Devils to prostrate to Adam.

b. After God created Eve, then God brought Adam and Eve to Satan, and said that the devil was their enemy. Don't let the devil take them out of heaven.

22. The first house of worship built by angels for Adam and the universe was the Baitullah in Bakkah in Mecca.

23. In the Qur’an there is no verse that describes the process of the descent of Adam and Eve, the devil and the snake from heaven to earth.

24. Explanation of the descent of Adam, Eve of the Devil and the Snake from Heaven to Earth, narrated by Thabrani narrated from Abdullah bin Umar:

• Adam, descended on the land of India.

• Eve was sent down in Jeddah

• In an effort to find Eve, God ordered Adam to come to Mecca, for Hajj

• Adam met Eve at Arafah, to be precise in Jabal Rahmah. After that, they both performed Tawaf by circling the Kaaba seven times.

• Then go to Sham (Syria) and die there.'' (HR Thabrani).

• The devil was sent down in the land of Maisan, which is the land between Basrah and Wasith.

• Snakes descended in the land of Asbahan (Iran). At-Tabari narrates that:

• Bakkah (Mecca) The first house of worship on Earth

-      God commanded the angels to build a house on earth and that they surround it (tawaf). This happened before the creation of Adam.

-      The Kaaba was first built by angels, then continued by Prophet Adam AS.

-      Then, the construction of the Kaaba was perfected by Prophet Ibrahim AS with his son, Ismail AS.

Point 24 information, not the Word of God revealed in the Qur’an. After all, the nomenclature of naming the nations did not exist at the time of the creation of the heavens and the earth for 6 times/day. The growth of mankind into a nation and continues to develop along with the development of human civilization and become the name of a nation and state occurred after the flood in the time of the Prophet Noah. Although this information is not stated or implied in the Qur'an, it does not mean that this information is wrong. For the truth of this information the reference is to the author of this information. So that it cannot be juxtaposed with the historical development of human civilization and nations.

3. But concerning the fruit of the tree that is in the midst of the garden, God said: Do not eat or touch the fruit, or you will die."

4 But the serpent said to the woman, "You will never die,

5. But God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil."

6. The woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye. Moreover, the tree was attractive because it gave understanding. Then she took of the fruit and ate it, and gave it to her husband who was with her, and he ate it.

7. Then the eyes of both of them were opened and they knew that they were naked; then they pinned fig leaves and made loincloths.

8. When they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden on a cool day, the man and his wife hid from the Lord God among the trees in the garden.

11. His Word: "Who told you that you were naked? Did you eat of the fruit of the tree, which I forbade you to eat?"

12. The man replied: "The woman you placed beside me, she gave me the fruit of the tree, so I ate it."

13. Then the LORD God said to the woman, "What have you done?" The woman replied: "The snake tricked me, so I ate it."

14 Then the LORD God said to the serpent, "Because you have done this, you will be accursed among all the cattle and among all the wild animals; with your belly you will crawl and the dust of the ground you will eat as long as you live.

15. I will put enmity between you and this woman, between your offspring and her offspring; his descendants will crush your head, and you will crush his heel."

16. He said to the woman: "I will make your labors during your pregnancy very much; with pain you will give birth to your child; but you will lust after your husband and he will rule over you."

17 Then He said to the man, "Because you have listened to your wife's words and ate from the fruit of the tree, which I commanded you: Do not eat of it, the earth will be cursed because of you; with difficulty you will seek your sustenance from the ground all your life :

18. thorns and thistles, which they will produce for you, and the vegetation of the field for your food;

19. by sweating thou shalt seek thy food, until thou shalt return to the ground again, for from it thou hast been taken; for you are dust and you will return to dust."

20. The man gave the name Eve to his wife, because she is the mother of all living.

21. And the LORD God made clothes of animal skins for the man and for his wife, and put them on them.

22 Then the LORD God said, "Behold, the man has become like one of us, knowing good and evil; so now let him not stretch out his hand and take also of the fruit of the tree of life and eat of it, so that he may live forever and ever. ever."

23. Then the LORD God drove him out of the garden of Eden so that he might cultivate the land from which he was taken.

24. He drove out the man, and on the east side of the garden of Eden He placed some cherubim with flaming and slashing swords, to guard the way to the tree of life.

The information that can be summarized from the creation of Heaven and Earth based on the contents of verses in the Qur’an and the Bible, clearly shows more differences than similarities.

The differences indicate that the contents of God's Word written in the Qur’an and the Bible come from different sources. This means that the God of Islam, whose revelation in the Qur'an is not the person of God worshiped by Christians, as written in the Bible. If this fact can be accepted jointly by Muslims and Christians, then the difference in the essence of God Almighty in the concept of Tawhid and the Trinity will not be the subject of debate between these two religious communities. The naming of God which refers to the personal name of God as written in the Qur'an and the Bible is not an obstacle to the principle of faith to be discussed. This is the same as the title of God, all religions refer to God to the Most Unseen being worshipped.

As religious people, of course we believe that God is omnipotent, omniscient, omniscient, omniscient, omniscient, omniscient, and omniscient. So it is impossible for the same God to give different revelations to the Prophets. Therefore, by looking at the facts of the differences that exist. As adherents of religions, both Islam and Christianity can be wise and respect each other's religious beliefs that are in principle different. The fact that these differences are presented does not mean that one of the two books (the Quran and the Bible) is true and the other is not.

In short, to assess the truth of the contents of God's Word in the Qur’an, the reference parameter is the Qur’an. Likewise, the truth of the contents of the Bible, the reference is the Bible. While the truth of faith in belief in God who saves the parameters of truth is determined by the faith of each human being with the God who is believed to be as known in the teachings written in the books of each religion. So the concept of faith "There is no god but God and Muhammad is the messenger of God" is absolutely true and cannot be denied

by any religion in the world. Because the shahada is the core of the teachings of faith that God conveyed to the Prophet Muhammad as stated in the Word of God through the Qur'an. The spiritual faith of Islam should not be juxtaposed with the core beliefs of other religions.

Likewise with the essence of the spiritual teaching of Christians who recognize that the essence of God is God who has the form of the original Right of Power (Father), can reveal His existence through His words (His Word), and has a living element that can revive or is known as the Holy Spirit. (Spirit of God). This concept of faith, of course, cannot be denied by any other religious teachings. Because the principle of faith is different. Thus the acknowledgment of Jesus as God is absolute truth in Christian and Catholic teachings, because Jesus is a manifestation of God's incarnation as a human to save mankind. Therefore, God in the concept of monotheism and the Trinity are both correct, according to the correct reference and correctly believed by each human being who believes in these teachings.

To simplify the shared mindset, it can be illustrated as follows: only the ship captain knows the ins and outs of how to save people in the middle of an ocean storm. And only the pilot knows the ins and outs of saving humans from plane turbulence in the middle of a cumulonimbus cloud storm. We cannot compare the professionalism of these two professions, because in principle their expertise is different even though the purpose of their work is the same. Hopefully this article will be useful to strengthen the faith of each religious community.
